Most Frequently Asked Question

Will fxmenopause stop me having hot flushes?

Yes, fxmenopause helps most women. Please see fxmenopause Flush Diary.

By using Fxmenopause you add extra phytoestrogens (sourced from foods) to your existing diet (healthy balanced diet). By increasing your intake of these phytoestrogens you reduce the causes of flushing and night sweats.

From the Foods Standards Agency: A healthy balanced diet contains a variety of foods including plenty of fruit and vegetables, plenty of starchy foods such as wholegrain bread, pasta and rice, some protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs and lentils and some dairy foods. It should also be low in fat (especially saturated fat), salt and sugar.

If you have any questions regarding phytoestrogens, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or by telephone on 01270 766439 - our office hours are from 8:30 - 18:00hrs Monday to Friday. Out of hours, do leave a message with your name and telephone number, including dialling code and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

1.  How soon after taking fxmenopause will I be able to see any effect?

We would suggest that a month is a fair trial of fxmenopause for first time users. Most of our first time users have reported noticing improvements by the end of the second week. Please see fxmenopause Flush Diary.

Please don't be discouraged, however, if you are one of those users whose body requires a longer period of time before you notice any significant effects.  All human studies to date have indicated positive results within 2 weeks for the majority of women, once you have found the right level of intake for you as an individual - please refer to Questions on Usage.

If you have any questions regarding usage, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or by telephone on 01270 766439 - our office hours are from 8:30 - 18:00hrs Monday to Friday. Out of hours, do leave a message with your name and telephone number, including dialling code and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

2.  I've had some very "vivid" dreams whilst taking fxmenopause; is this common?

This has been reported by a small number of first time users in our human trials.  It is unusual for these dreams to continue for longer than a few days. If this disturbs you, try taking your capsules earlier in the day or indeed, reduce your intake.

3.  What are the other positive effects of fxmenopause?

Our human studies have identified many benefits, the most common being increased energy, improved sleep, improved emotional wellbeing and significant improvement in skin tone and texture, particularly on the face.

4.  I started taking fxmenopause three months ago and now I'm feeling great, can I stop taking it now?

By all means, experiment by stopping your intake. However, nearly all women find that once they stop taking fxmenopause, the benefits stop and they are soon back to where they were before they started.

Don't forget that once you have got started with fxmenopause, you do not need to take it every single day of the week. It is worth experimenting to see what suits you; an erratic approach seems to fit best with the majority of our users. It may sound strange, but you will know when you need more and equally, when you feel good, kick back and take less.

1.  How many capsules should I take a day?

fxmenopause should be consumed according to your needs and stage of the menopause, as shown below:

Recommended daily intake Peri-menopausal Menopausal Postmenopausal Hysterectomy
Start-up Usage 1 – 2 capsules 3 capsules 3 capsules 3 capsules

Please adjust your intake of fxmenopause according to your diet and wellbeing. Caffeine, alcohol and some over the counter medications can reduce the effectiveness of fxmenopause.

Do spread your intake over the day, for example: if you are post menopause, try 2 in the morning and 1 late afternoon and not 3 at one time.

Do experiment to see what the correct intake is for you as an individual. For some women, this can be 1 capsule/day; others may need 3 capsules over the first 2-3 weeks.

Once you have been taking fxmenopause for a few weeks and the benefits have kicked in, you should be able to reduce the start-up intake (please see next question).  As a result, most women find that the 60 capsule bottle will last anywhere from one and a half to two months (£ Sterling: 48p to 64p/day; Euros: 0,52 to 0,69/day; US: 67 – 89 cents/day). Costs for peri-menopause women will more than likely be less as their intake will be lower (Average daily cost: £ Sterling: 24p – 48p; Euros: 0,26 to 0,52; US: 33 – 67 cents).

Please try to avoid drinking tea/coffee or alcohol within half an hour of taking your capsules, as these may affect the absorption of fxmenopause. Note: certain soft drinks such as Colas and some sports drinks also contain caffeine. Remember you don’t have to give up cups of tea or coffee, just work around them!

If you have any questions regarding usage, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or by telephone on 01270 766439; our office hours are from 8:30 - 18:00hrs Monday to Friday. Out of hours, do leave a message with your name and telephone number, including dialling code and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

2.  I've been taking fxmenopause for over three weeks now, is it OK to start reducing my intake?

If you feel that you have achieved maximum benefits, do experiment by reducing your intake by 1 capsule, run that for 4 or 5 days and see how you are.

If you are still fine, you may wish to try reducing your intake by one more capsule; if you notice that the beneficial effects reduce, then go back up to the level at which you were previously doing well. You will soon be able to establish the optimum level for you in the long term.

Do remember that you do not need to take fxmenopause every single day. Intake can be erratic, for example, take your capsules during the week if you work and reduce/stop at the weekend.

3.  Is there any way to maximise the effectiveness of fxmenopause?

Users have reported positive synergistic effects when taking fxmenopause in conjunction with vitamins and minerals such as Magnesium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin E and /or Evening Primrose Oil/Starflower Oil.

You could also increase your dietary intake of other foods which contain phytoestrogens such as spinach, broccoli, cherries, many of the red and dark berries, lentils, tofu, flaxseed, bean sprouts, etc. Our vegetarian customers tend to need up to 30% less capsules than average, so there is a lot you can do simply via diet.

4.  I already take several multivitamins & supplements. Is it safe to take fxmenopause as well?

The majority of our users routinely take multivitamins and the like. We would suggest leaving a gap of around half an hour after taking other supplements before you take fxmenopause.

Please do not, however, take fxmenopause in conjunction with any other hormonal products such as contraceptives or any conventional HRT.

In addition, please do not take fxmenopause in conjunction with any other alternative food or herbal supplements such as soy isoflavones, red clover, dong quai or black cohosh.  If you are currently taking any alternatives, we would suggest leaving a gap of 1 week before starting fxmenopause – this to avoid any interactions which may cause nausea, headaches etc. Some other herbal supplements such as St. John’s Wort may also negate or block fxmenopause's benefits.

As always, if you have any doubts, please give us a call on 01270 766439 - our office hours are from 8:30 - 18:00hrs Monday to Friday. Out of hours, do leave a message with your name and telephone number, including dialing code and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

5.  How long can I take fxmenopause for?

As a food supplement, there are no long term concerns; our human data to date and the fact that all the ingredients of fxmenopause have been routinely consumed by many generations of families, suggest that there are no long term contra-indications associated with its intake.

In addition, fxmenopause has been independently tested to simulate the effects of long term usage. No adverse effects were noted in any test conducted. We have many women who have been using our product continuously for over 6 years.

6.  Does fxmenopause have any side-effects?

A very small number of women may experience some bloating/flatulence when first taking fxmenopause. This is caused by intestinal bacteria reacting to the presence of certain types of carbohydrates, (oligosaccharides) such as those commonly found in beans. This effect has only been noted in a few women who do not normally consume these particular carbohydrates in their diet. Of these women, most find that their body is able to adapt to the presence of these carbohydrates by introducing fxmenopause gradually to their diet. If you do not have any problems when you eat foods such as baked beans, kidney beans and lentils, it is very unlikely that you will have any issues.

If you would like to speak to one of our Product Support team, please call us on 01270 766439 - our office hours are from 8:30 - 18:00hrs Monday to Friday. Out of hours, do leave a message with your name and telephone number, including dialling code and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

7.  Do I need to tell my GP that I'm taking fxmenopause?

We always suggest users keep their GP routinely informed of all supplements that they take.

If you would like us to send them a full information pack about fxmenopause, please contact us with their name and address.

8.  I think I'm beginning to see the start of menopause.  Can I start to take fxmenopause now?

As with any dietary supplement, there is no reason why you should not be taking fxmenopause directly, given that there are no contra-indications. If your periods are regular, you may only need 1 capsule /day or even 1 every other day.

Many women find tremendous benefits by including fxmenopause in their diet; do try experimenting to find the right intake level for you as an individual - please refer to Questions on Usage above.

9.  If I'm on antibiotics, do I have to stop taking fxmenopause?

It is unlikely that you will have to stop taking fxmenopause as this works through a completely different pathway in your body.  We would normally suggest taking your antibiotics at the prescribed times and leave an hour at least before you take fxmenopause. However, we do suggest that you advise your GP/Specialist of all dietary supplements that you are taking and then any potential issues with other medication can be discussed with you should they arise.

10.  Do I need to stop taking fxmenopause before surgery?

Many consultants and anaesthetists prefer all supplements to be stopped prior to the operation. Please discuss this with your Consultant; you may find it helpful to request an information pack on fxmenopause from us to send on to the consultant's secretary.

11.  Does it matter when I take fxmenopause?  Before/after meals?  First thing in the morning?

For maximum benefit, we recommend that you take fxmenopause with food, and a cool drink. It doesn't have to be a full meal - a piece of toast, yoghurt or fruit is fine. Most of our customers take their fxmenopause in the morning (with a top up late afternoon if required.). Some users indicate that taking their capsules last thing at night helps them sleep better; a small number of users may, however, find that the increased energy keeps them awake.

As we are all different, it is worth experimenting, perhaps over a weekend when you haven't got anything much on.

12.  I've got a stomach bug, should I increase my fxmenopause intake?

If you are feeling poorly, you can stop taking fxmenopause until you feel better again. If you have been taking fxmenopause for a while, it is unlikely that you will notice any loss of benefits by stopping for three or four days.

13.  At what age can I start taking fxmenopause?

The menopause is a natural event in our lives and can occur from the late 30s onwards[1]. We know of women who have gone into the menopause for a number of months and then gone back to having regular periods again for a number of years. There is no “right” age to start taking our product and equally there is no “wrong” age – you will know when it’s right for you.

Please remember, however, that if you are planning to have children or are using hormonal based contraception, you should not take fxmenopause

Please also note that if you have any ongoing medical condition or health issues, we suggest that you discuss the use of fxmenopause with your GP/Specialist.

1.  How does fxmenopause work in my body?

fxmenopause contains natural plant oestrogens (phytoestrogens) extracted from mung beans, a food source that has been safely consumed in large quantities for many generations.  Phytoestrogens are compounds with a similar structure to the oestrogen hormone. Once digested, these phytoestrogens can be used by your body, where they help to compliment your own oestrogen levels.

2.  I've tried all the other so-called HRT alternatives and they haven't worked for me.  Why should I believe that fxmenopause is any different?

fxmenopause has been developed from research into conventional foods which have a long established history of dietary usage. The scientists were interested in identifying which components of these traditional foods could benefit women in their menopause years and beyond. As such, fxmenopause represents a revolutionary therapy for women; consumer studies have demonstrated that it is effective for a large number of people, significantly improving the quality of their life, whilst maintaining a very good safety ratio, as you would expect from food.

As we have been dealing with the menopause for a number of years, we know that as a food supplement, fxmenopause needs to be adapted to you and your lifestyle. Our product support team are there to help you out over your first few weeks and make sure you are getting the benefits we expect.

At the end of the first month, if you are one of the few that finds our product does not work, then we are happy to suggest alternatives that you may not have tried, even though we do not supply them.  We feel it is important not just to sell the product and walk away from you.

Further details on how fxmenopause works can be found in Science

1.  Can I take fxmenopause as well as conventional HRT?

It is not advisable to take fxmenopause alongside medicinal HRT (patches, tablets, implants etc). You will have to decide whether you would prefer to use HRT or fxmenopause.

However, localised HRT in the form of vaginal creams, pessaries, etc should not cause any issues; please discuss this with your GP or consultant.

If you would like to discuss including fxmenopause in your diet with your GP/ Specialist and would like further information to be sent to them, please contact us with their name & address and we will be happy to forward them a full information pack.

2.  I've just stopped HRT, how soon can I start fxmenopause?

We would suggest discussing matters in the first instance with your GP/pharmacist; from our experience based on feedback from our customers’ medical professionals, we suggest as follows:

If you have been weaning yourself off HRT for a number of weeks, try starting with 1 capsule/day and then gradually building up your intake as required.

If you decide to stop HRT immediately, we would normally suggest leaving a "wash-out" period of around 2 weeks before starting with fxmenopause.

Our Product Support team will be happy to suggest a suitable start up dependent upon individual needs. Please do not hesitate to contact us via email or by telephone on 01270 766439 - our office hours are from 8:30 - 18:00hrs Monday to Friday. Out of hours, do leave a message with your name and telephone number, including dialling code and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

3.  Can I take fxmenopause if I’m on medication?

fxmenopause is not suitable for women on medication for low blood pressure, over active thyroid and as well as those taking conventional HRT, hormone based contraceptives and blood thinners . Women on fertility treatment should equally not take fxmenopause.

We suggest that women on medication or who have any health condition should discuss including fxmenopause in their diet with their GP. Do contact us for an information pack to be sent to your GP.

4.  I'm in my sixties, is fxmenopause suitable for me?

Given that there are no contra-indications, allergies or the like, then there should be no reason why you should not try our product.

5.  Can I take fxmenopause if I'm pregnant?

No.

If you are pregnant or planning to start a family, please do not consume any phytoestrogens (supplements), including fxmenopause as these affect your body's ability to maintain the required high hormone levels that are needed during pregnancy.

If you have been taking fxmenopause and find that you are pregnant, please stop the fxmenopause.

1. Since taking fxmenopause, I’ve noticed that I become bloated and suffer from flatulence. What causes this?

Bloating and excessive wind can be caused by your intestinal bacteria reacting to the presence of certain types of carbohydrates, (oligosaccharides) such as those commonly found in beans. fxmenopause similarly contains these carbohydrates and could be the cause of the discomfort. This reaction is more common in women who do not consume quantities of beans in their normal diet / those who do not regularly eat their “five a day”.

You should find that your body is able to adapt to the presence of these carbohydrates by introducing fxmenopause gradually to your diet over a number of days. It’s a bit like going on holiday abroad and having to get used to the local cooking – we all know what that can mean for the first few days..! Whilst this extra effort may be disappointing, we do advise perseverance in order to experience the benefits of taking fxmenopause.

2.  Will I put on weight if I take fxmenopause?

fxmenopause has no known effect on weight gain; each capsule contains 2.5 calories (3 capsules contain fewer carbohydrates than half a standard sized tomato). On the positive side, many users report that increased energy means that they want to do more.  This obviously burns up more calories and helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

3.  Will alcohol affect the action of fxmenopause?

Some individuals' diets, which include stimulants such as caffeine and/or alcohol, may differ from the "norm", and it is possible that the beneficial effects of fxmenopause will be reduced.

As with most foods including supplements, the consumption of alcohol will affect absorption. If you are going to have a drink in the evening, we suggest you take your capsules at least an hour earlier.

Red wine appears to be the worst offender – whereas women report drinks such as gin and tonic cause few/no problems.

4.  Will smoking affect the action of fxmenopause?

fxmenopause works through a different pathway in your body, so in theory, smoking should not affect its action. However, as we have not conducted any studies on fxmenopause consumed by women who smoke, we are unable to confirm the accuracy of this hypothesis.

5.  Could I be allergic to any of fxmenopause's ingredients?

Whilst fxmenopause's components are extracts of conventional foods that have been routinely consumed by many generations of Asian families, there will be, as is the case with all food types, some intolerance by some individuals, often noticeable by gastrointestinal symptoms as described above.

Please do not take fxmenopause if you are allergic or suspect that you may be allergic to any of its ingredients.
If you experience any unusual symptoms or have any concerns, please stop taking the capsules and contact our Customer Support Team on +44 (0)1270 766439 or e-mail us at: customerservice@nutrafx.com.

1. Have you carried out any trials for fxmenopause?

Prospective human studies have been conducted globally with consenting healthy females, since 2001. In 2003, we conducted a UK study of fxmenopause, kindly supported by the Chronicle Group of Newspapers - please refer to Science for further details.

Independent hospital trials of fxmenopause addressing the issues of safety and simulated the effects of long term consumption have also been undertaken. No adverse results were reported.

In addition, since all the components of fxmenopause have been routinely consumed by generations of families, we are confident of the safety of our product. It akin to taking carrot capsules to avoid having to eat a bunch of carrots everyday, which would get fairly monotonous!

2.  I've just had a hysterectomy.  Is it safe for me to take fxmenopause straight away?

Please discuss this with your gynaecologist beforehand and certainly if you are taking any other medication.  Once you have had your post operative check-up and your gynaecologist is satisfied, this would be a good time to start.

If you would like an information pack to be sent to your gynaecologist, please contact us with their name and address and we can arrange this to be sent out for you.

3.  I've asked my GP about alternative HRT therapies; he says they are not proven and I should stick to recognised HRT.  I'm very confused.

Until recently, within the European community, it has been possible to place food, herbal supplements and creams for the menopause on the market without having to prove any efficacy.

This all changed in January 2007, when EU regulation 1924/2006 covering nutrition and health claims made on food came into effect. Manufacturers of food supplements, vitamins and minerals were requested to submit as much evidence as they could find from peer published scientific journals to justify the claims they were making on their products. These claims are currently being assessed by the European Food Standards Agency, the end purpose being to obtain health claims which are “truthful, clear, reliable and useful to the consumer in choosing a healthy diet”.

Once this process has been completed, hopefully by January 2010, GPs will know that only those products that have been positively assessed will be allowed to continue to make claims.

In the meantime, the dossier of evidence submitted for fxmenopause has been checked by the UK’s Food Standards Agency as well as the European Commission and has been included in the final list of claims which has been submitted to the European Food Standards Agency.

4.  I'm afraid of cancer.  If traditional HRT can cause cancer, how come fxmenopause doesn't?

Clinical and scientific studies carried out in Japan, the United States and many other countries have shown that phytoestrogens interact with the oestrogen receptors in your body in a totally different manner from conventional HRT treatments.

Independent hospital trials of fxmenopause addressing the issues of safety and simulating the effects of long term consumption have been undertaken. No adverse results were reported.

5.  I've never heard of your company before.  With so many quacks out there, how do I know fxmenopause is a reputable product?

The team at NutraFX Ltd has been associated with fxmenopause since the commencement of human trials in 2002 and we continue to support its marketing and distribution, including compliance with the appropriate regulatory health authorities.

fxmenopause is manufactured to pharmaceutical grade standards and each batch is tested for efficacy and safety, conforming to the standards imposed by the country’s health regulatory authority that safeguards public confidence in the quality, safety and efficacy of all health care products.

Many of our first time users hear about us from existing satisfied customers, no doubt the best form of endorsement!

6.  Is fxmenopause safe?

fxmenopause contains extracts of mung beans which have been commonly eaten in large quantities for many generations. No genetically modified crops are used and it does not contain either artificial flavourings or preservatives. Production and packing comply with GMP (pharmaceutical grade) standards and each batch is tested for efficacy, heavy metals and microbial content.

In addition, independent trials of fxmenopause addressing safety issues and simulating the effects of long term consumption have been undertaken. No adverse results were reported.

7.  I have a long distance flight next week.  Is it safe to take fxmenopause?  I cam concerned about its effect on DVT.

Phytoestrogens are not structurally related to the steroidal oestrogens used in those conventional HRT drugs which have been linked with this risk. As with all dietary supplements, however, please discuss the matter with your GP/specialist, if you have any concerns.

8.  I'm allergic to soy products.  Is it safe for me to take fxmenopause?

fxmenopause does not contain any soy products, so there is no need to be concerned. However, as with all dietary supplements, please discuss the use of fxmenopause with your GP/Pharmacist if you have any concerns.

Whilst we make every effort to despatch orders quickly, we regret that orders placed after 16:45 hrs may have to be shipped the following working day.

According to recent press, approximately 83% of Orders shipped by first class post arrive the next day; orders placed by second class post can take 5 working days.

If your letter box isn’t large enough, you may find that your postman has left your package with a neighbour or other usual place they use when you are out (eg garden shed).  Sometimes, we find that packages have been taken back to the dispatch office and the notification card has been omitted. If your order has not arrived as expected within normal timescales, we recommend checking with your local sorting office prior to calling us.

If you feel that there may be problems delivering to your home address, consider having your order delivered to a neighbour who is normally at home or your place of work.

We can also accept orders for dispatch on a specified date and can cater for delivery instructions such as “please leave in shed” to be written on the packaging.
